Texas-based bookkeeping for Austin businesses

Austin's small-business community leans young and fast-moving: software and tech startups, agencies and creative studios, consultants, restaurants and food trucks, and live-music and event businesses.

We work with Austin clients remotely through QuickBooks Online, bank feeds and secure document sharing, with a monthly review call. You get a Texas firm that knows Texas sales tax and the franchise tax, and a monthly close you can hand to an investor or lender.

One Source Bookkeeping is Kristina Weaver and John Morgan — both Intuit Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisors, with more than 35 years between us. You work with one of us directly, every month, wherever in Texas you are.

What we get called about in Austin

What Austin businesses usually need.

  • Investor-ready monthly statements. A close that's on time every month and holds up to questions.
  • Subscription and contract revenue. Annual and multi-month contracts recorded as they're earned.
  • Contractors and freelancers everywhere. Payments through several platforms with no year-end 1099 record.
  • Software and SaaS sales tax. Texas treats much software as taxable, which surprises many founders.

Questions from Austin business owners

Is software taxable in Texas?

Often, yes. Texas generally treats many software and data-processing services as taxable. We'll make sure your revenue is categorized so you and your CPA can confirm what's taxable and file correctly.

How does remote bookkeeping actually work?

You give us access to QuickBooks and your bank feeds, and send documents through a secure shared folder. We reconcile and close each month, send your statements on a set schedule and walk through them with you on a short call. Most clients never need to print anything.

Can you help with the Texas franchise tax report?

We don't file it, but we make it easy. The franchise tax is calculated from your revenue and margin, so clean, reconciled books are what your CPA needs to file it correctly and on time each May.

How much does bookkeeping cost?

Every package is custom. We look at how many accounts need reconciling, how many transactions run through them each month and how complex the entity structure is, then quote one monthly number before you commit. The books review is free.
